Protein Brownies

As promised, here is my recipe for some *really* good (and clean!) protein bars.  They are similar to brownies, but have more of a cake like texture.  Unlike regular brownies, these are *really* good for you!  They are low in sugar and carbs, but a great protein source and tasty to boot!

Here's what you'll need:

1 cup Oat Flour
4 Egg Whites
2 scoops of Vanilla or Chocolate Protein Powder (I used chocolate)
1/2 cup Splenda or Truvia
1/2 tsp Baking Soda (I forgot this in this batch I made - whoops!)
1/2 tsp Salt
1 cup of Unsweetened Applesauce
3 tbsp Baking Cocoa
1/2 cups Water
1/4 cup Ground Flax or Chia seeds - I used flax in this batch because I couldn't find my chia seeds
1/2 cup Peanut Butter
1/2 cup Dark Chocolate Chips

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Here you are supposed to put all dry ingredients in one bowl and the wet ingredients in the other.  I figure they will all be mixed together anyway so I just put them all in one big bowl.
3. Mix it up!
4.  Spray a 8x8 or 9x9 (or whatever you have around this size) baking dish with butter spray.  I actually use coconut oil.
5.  Add batter.

6.  Bake 20-30 minutes.
7. Eat 'em up!

If you divide this into 12 bars (cut almost twice as big as this picture) the nutrition facts are as follows (can vary depending on brand names):

Calories - 145
Fat - 5g
Carbs - 19g
Fiber - 3.6g
Sugars - 2.1g
Protein 9g

Pretty good considering this is pretty yummy!

Let me know if you try them and what you think!

    1. Hi Paula, I got it at a nutrition store called "Total Nutrition". I think you can order online as well. I also have another kind of powder that I buy on Amazon which I love for shakes with fruit. The brand is Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Vanilla Ice Cream. It is SO good! They also have chocolate, mocha, lots of other flavors and it is very reasonable (it last a long time!). I will probably order their chocolate when the container I have from TN runs out.
